How Israel became a sovereign state 1917-1948:
Sir Martin Gilbert's landmark lecture, October 2007

In October 2007 Sir Martin Gilbert, official biographer of Sir Winston Churchill and author of A History of Israel, delivered a lecture in the British Foreign Office to an audience of 300 people to mark the 90th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration.  He recounted the diplomatic process by which the Jews built Israel in the period 1917-1948.  The lecture was a landmark, both for its setting and for the importance of its content.  It was organised by the Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland ( www.zionist.org.uk ) who have published the lecture on their website.  To access the lecture, please click here .
